Pinhole

About Pinhole Photography

Pinhole photographs are created by using a simple black box and an unexposed piece of photo paper or a roll of film placed at the back of the box. The front of the box has a very small pinhole that acts as the lens and the aperture, then usually a piece of black tape that is removed prior to exposure acts as the shutter. Once the "shutter" is opened the light hits the unexposed paper, the length of time for exposure is determined on the size of the pinhole and the distance the camera is form the subject.  The camera box can be created using almost anything, shoe boxes, film canister, or empty Altoids cans. Whatever box you choose needs to be completely covered in black, usually black duck tape or paint. You can also use an actual SLR or DSLR camera to create pinhole images. To build one all you need to do is remove the lens and use a body cap that has a pinhole in it. Then you can shoot and develop as you normally would.
